Embracing Change: Transitioning from corporate world to a student

April 7, 2015

Making a change in your life can be difficult, and stressful.

I was working in a corporate world mainly in the financial industry for 23 years when I knew I had to make a major change in my life. I was unhappy, extremely bored, frustrated and unfulfilled. I felt there was something lacking in my life.

When I was young and graduated from high school I did not know what I wanted out of life so
I got a job in the corporate world. Twenty three years later I was miserable and wanted something more meaningful out of life. I knew I needed a change in my life  but yet I was reluctant to do anything about it.

One of the things I regretted the most in my life was not going to university when I was younger. My sister kept encouraging and reminding me that it's never too late to make a change, go back to school and get a degree. But I was unwilling. I would make excuses to myself and to others . The most common were "I'm too old to go back to school-that time has passed" or "what give up my job security?" However the real underlying reason was FEAR, fear of making a change, fear of the unknown, and fear of failure.

Around the same time I was going through this turmoil I unexpectedly came across Reiki.

Through research I found out more about Reiki and learned that Reiki works on all  levels physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. I started receiving Reiki treatments along with Life Coaching sessions. Reiki  helped me gain self-confidence, raised my self-esteem and gave me the courage to face my fears, and pursue my dreams and goals.

With the combination of Reiki, Life Coaching and my own determination I left the corporate world and enrolled into a full time Bachelor of Arts Program Specializing in Psychology at York University.

I can honestly say those four years at York were one of the happiest times in my life. Sure I faced many challenges along the way. But it was also a very rewarding experience, not only did I obtain a degree but my thesis won an award for Excellence in Qualitative Research. However, I feel the best reward was intrinsic- the self-growth and transformation that had taken place inside of me.

What  about you? What are your dreams and goals? Remember it is never too late to make a change in you life. Don't let your fears confine and define you. Embrace change and challenge yourself to be all that you can be and transform your dreams and goals into a reality.

"By changing nothing, nothing changes" -Tony Robbins

We all have our own dreams and goals in life. Though there are times that we lose faith in ourselves because we fear conquering these certain circumstances. Before we reach our success, there will always be challenges that we would be facing and we should know how to deal with it. Change is an important factor for us to turn our dreams into reality, because through change we will be able to help ourselves grow and do better in the future. Most of us fear change, with this, we should learn how to take risks for us to have more opportunities in life.

Changing the status of your life is something that would require you a lot of work. Leaving the box of your comfort zone and going into something that makes you feel very vulnerable is indeed very hard to do. Being a university student is very tiring and I hope that you would be able to finish your studies. Working in the corporate world is very much easier compared with complying with all of the requirements of the subjects in a college course.

Fear is a feeling of which we are afraid to do something, a fear to make a mistake, a fear to do wrong, a fear of everything. When we overcame by fear, the chances of improvement and success are small. While we are still living, take every opportunity to make yourself better, face your fears and take the risk. I was inspired by your story, you overcame your fear and studied in college. The result of that is you got a degree in Psychology. This is an inspiring blog, I know many people believed that it is not too late to be successful.

This reminded me of an episode of Friends, where one of the main characters, decided to quit his job in a big company. He was unhappy with doing something that he did not want in the first place. Just like you, he did not know what he really wanted to do in life. That is why he tried an unpaid internship, which is a huge step down. Finally, he was finally doing something that makes him happy even though he thought he was too old to start over again.

I was studied in college when I am only 18 years old I don’t like changes. At the time passed I am getting mature then I feel that the changes are more important for us that makes the boy to man.

It always seems impossible until it is done. I am a firm believer of the saying that believing in yourself is the first secret to success. I am happy that you have overcome the fear that resided within you for years. Feeling unfulfilled is one of the hardest obstacles in life as it demands a major change. And in order to obtain that major change, one must make a major decision. Change is inevitable, it may come in a positive or negative form. But in order to keep a tight grip on life, one must embrace change. Thank you!

One thing I learned about life is that you are the only one who can write your own story. If you want something, go get it! Do not let anyone or anything get in the way of something that you are passionate about. Embrace the change, open your wings and explore the horizons. You owe it to yourself, especially if what you want will be the reason for what you will become. You only live once, so be crazy like it's the last day.

Incredible post. Articles that have significant and savvy remarks are more agreeable, at any rate to me. It’s fascinating to peruse what other individuals thought and how it identifies with them or their customers, as their point of view could help you later on.
